 BACKGROUND, Meditative Performing Arts

The Performing Method facilitated by Luis Daniel Maldonado Fonken, is the result of a combination of Meditative Arts, Emotional Self-Management, Non Violence Practices, Prime Love ( lovability as artistic self expression)  and application of life care principles.

Developed by Luis Daniel Maldonado Fonken, Meditative arts practitioner and facilitator of emotional self-management, non violence practices and Prime Love ( lovability as artistic self expression) for peace.

As business consultant, LUIS applied nature principles and emotional self-management for the enhancement of management and strategy in business, as well as for the advancement of resilience, communication and collaboration in teams.

Luis is a yoga, meditation, prime do (self-defense) teacher, and meditative arts practitioner. His experience in the application and development of this method starts in 1992.

Luis applied the method, facilitated it for personal development in the environment of family, daily life and business. Applied as well the meditative arts training for the empowerment of emotional self-management skills for his business management and self-management students since 1999. Him self performer of multiple arts, developed improvisation performance workshops within the environment of body arts between 2005 and 2013. Meditative arts performer, multiple artist.

The method has been developed by applying meditative arts, within the context of the use of archetypes, myths, and performance by greek, japanese, russian ancient theater plays (REF archeology and anthropology studies, references) as well as inspired by modern expressions of the performing arts like Cirque du soleil. Meditative arts have been also a practice of spiritual traditions in several cultures).

Abilities developed through the practice of yoga, meditation, conscious body movement and conscious use of the voice, as well as heart based consciousness  are very important for the application of meditative arts practices, emotional self-management,  lovability and non violence practices.


The results of practice of this method is of non conceptual performing, with a tangible self-reflective effect in the pre actor, increasing of empathy, emotional flexibility (shift), peaceful and harmonious self expression (even pole emotions or scenes are played), non violence and self-management skills, body self-awareness, self-expression, communication, improvisation (solo and collective simultaneously), communication and co-creation with the pre actor.

The foundation that gives yoga, emotional self-management, non violence, self-observation and self-awareness practices, will be integrated to meditative arts practices.

The practice of meditative arts involve self-awareness of own emotions, body, feelings, sensations, movement, as well as continues perception of the performing environment and ensemble crew, three of them fields that inspires and triggers improvisation.

While improvisation has not a lack of purpose, conscious integration of non violence practices, emotional self-management, lovability into the improvisation, will give the pre actors a new insight into peace.

The ability of improvisation, self-awareness, self-management as well as the play of peace, love, family, life care, culture care and heritage issues, and to impress the pre actor with an immediate effect as for self-reflection, is the purpose, goal of the application of the method.


The practice of this method is suggested to performers, choreographers, crew as for their collective  practice and rehearsal, as all of them elements of the improvisation process; creating in that sense, also with the presence and reaction of the pre actor (interaction) the stream of the performance, the variation of its tones, colors, intensity and depth, for better receptivity of the current pre actor.

The practice of these method needs to be done by following a precise training process, developed by stages. Its foundation will be found in the practice of self-observation (self-awareness applied to all senses, emotions, feelings, and daily life activity simultaneously) creating in the actors the ability to indicate when their peaceful state and which emotions or feelings rise or change. This ability associated to empathy and self-knowing, will be applied along the performance as foundation for the art.

The second stage is that one of the practice and study of nature principles, life in harmony and ability of expressing those principles through the performing art. The use of performing metaphors and symbolic language as well as the described above multilevel language will be necessary.

Emotional self-management and lovability are a key for this practice, as it would lead the performers to the ability to shift from one emotion or feeling, to another one, by will. The speed and clarity, of intensity of this shift, will be trained, as an impacting communicative tool for the art.

The application of non violence, lovability and emotional self-management practices will be at this stage necessary as for the performers to reach the capacity of communicating peace and emotional harmony, love, self-love, while playing for example wild nature of life or human possibilities.

The final stage will be that one of the practice of solo performance, to collaborative collective performance.

By adding purpose to these method, variation of the performance according to audience or project: flash mob, street installation, education purpose at school or corporations, for entertainment or for theaters, the performers will learn how to adapt their performing arts to the diversity of audiences, with the goal of empowering and creating a flexible ability of communication.

The practice of this method in its advanced stage will be that one of our ensemble and facilitators of the method itself. Choreographers must know the method as well as the crew, as for their interaction is part of the play. in Particular choreographers will need to know and understand the emotional, consciousness, and self expression movements of the ensemble, its potential, there for the application of a creative ability of designing a performance with them. The correct understanding of the method, and its application, by the choreographer, will help him/her produce a refined expression of the art in collaboration with the performers and crew.

Luis  practice yoga, meditation and self-defense (emotional and body self-awareness) arts several practices (1980) since 1990. Start public teaching in 2007.

Since 1992 facilitates workshops dedicated to personal development, emotional self-management, communication and collaboration.

Lives abroad traveling since 1997, as sustainable development entrepreneur develop business projects, in the fields of arts and culture, responsible tourism, sustainability, business (corporate responsibility)

Trainer, Coach, Consultant for Business management since 2002. Provide services to entrepreneurs, small companies, NGOs and small corporations in South america and Europe (Switzerland, Austria, Finland, Germany, Italy, Russia).

Develop know how based on application of nature principles and application of self-awareness and human consciousness and perception for the enhancement of business management strategy and decision making. As well as for personal development and enhancement of family relationships. Communication, collaboration and emotional self-management have been his main focus.

Since 1987 he facilitates team building training and is in charge of design of learning process and education. Along his travels he explored in several education methods.

Since 1996 Explores in multiple arts practice, play music, improvise poetry or story and paints. In 2006 starts with the integration of all his artistic skills into body arts. Developed new body arts method, where self-awareness and emotional self-management will be applied as a preventive health practice, for body memory release and emotional self-balance, self-expression, and personal development. Invited by the world body painting festival academy, he will teach at the academy yearly since 2010.

In 2007 published several books dedicated to sustainable living, self-awareness, business management where self-education and emotional self-management is addressed. He created own education method, to be applied for adults and youth, based on learning through experiences ( a learning by doing ) and self-education.

Develops since 2013 Non violence practices, by applying meditative arts, meditation, yoga, and self defense (prime do). Dedicated to peace work since 2013. Facilitates workshops and provide arts performance, story telling, as for a call for peace.
